Dores Lock Down Rice
I have to admit that I was a little worried about the Owls and their high-powered offense. It proved true in the first half when it seemed like Clement couldn't throw an incompletion. The Dores, however, held stride. I had to watch the CBS Sportsline Gametracker online (I'm in Argentina) and felt a thrill I never thought I would watching little simulated Commodores run around the field. The D stepped it up big time in the second half, forcing punts, sacks, and turning the Owls over. The highlight for me was watching the fake little DJ Moore almost take it to the house after the D forced a 3-and-out. That's twice he's taken it all the way to the 1 yard this year.
Obviously, a 3-0 start couldn't feel better. These Dores are consistently closing games (if three counts) and playing great defense when it matters most. Jared Hawkins deserves a lot of credit - it seemed like a guaranteed 5 yards every time he touched the ball tonight. I wish I could see them play live, but watching a Gametracker W is good enough. As long as we win. Go Dores.

Big D needs the 3
I'd like to open this entry by just stating a sincere thanks to the DoreDuds clothing line for their continuing support. Now on to the material...
Shan while falling certainly further in the draft than he deserved ended up in a very good situation. First, he's working for owner Mark Cuban. Cuban is notorious for spoiling his players with locker room extras such as built in flat screen televisions, DVD set ups, and entertainment system in each locker. Once Shan steps out of the locker room and on to the court, he'll have the premier past-first point guard of the last 10 years in J-Kidd setting him up for jumpers. Thirdly, when first year coach Rick Carlisle needs a three and looks down his bench, the current options are limited with Jason Terry, a career 39% three point shooter as perhaps the best option. I look forward to rooting for the Mavs in the future, even if it means pulling for former rivals Brandon Bass (LSU) and Erik Dampier (MSU).Shan interview from the Mavs' website

Basehall over; Snedeker article
A strange baseball season is over. The 2nd ranked Diamond Dores started off the season with a shellacking of the defending national champions only to fall 18-6 a day later to Arizona State. All-American Pedro Alvarez broke his hand and missed 20+ games and the 'Dores struggled at the beginning of SEC play.
The squad banded together midway through conference play and traveled to Georgia with a chance to put themselves in position to win the regular season. Unfortunately, a convincing Game 1 victory was not a harbinger of things to come. The next night, the 'Dores gave up a 2-0 lead in the 9th inning. The Saturday night loss in Athens was the final turning point of the season, as the series slipped away the next day and the Gators pulled out brooms the following weekend.
Despite another early postseason flameout, the 'Diamond Dores are primed for success next year. The cupboard is full and another top ranked recruiting class comes to Nashville in the Fall. Corbin and his staff are the best recruiters in America. Maybe next year is the year Vandy turns the corner and heads to Omaha.
In other news, turns your eyes to this fantastic article in the Memphis Appeal. Brandt Snedeker is a model ambassador for the Vandy athletic program.

Buy Shan, his Stock's Undervalued
SEC Player of the Year, 2nd Team All-American, Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for good citizenship = 40th best prospect in this year's draft?
With just 6 weeks until the June 26th NBA Draft, it looks like Shan Foster will fall to the Second Round. According to ESPN's draft expert chad forde, the negatives on Shan read like the following. "Foster is pretty one-dimensional. He's not very athletic. Needs to add strength. Poor ball handler. He rarely gets to the line." As this highlight reel indicates, I take issue with those statements. I will perhaps tackle each of these in the coming days. For now,
Not very athletic? Ask Rick Stansbury, whose Mississippi State team suffered a 9/9 three point barrage from Shan Foster late in the season. As the founding member of the Daily Dore Fatt Popp will tell you, that clip will give your goosebumps goosebumps. That video also revealed that it sure looked like Stansbury told his team to guard 32. Any basketball purist will tell you that to take a non-athletic shooter out of the game, simply put a hand in his face. That video also revealed that that February night it didn't matter. See, athletic players make plays regardless of who's guarding them. Shan proved that night why he is an athlete.

Good Read on Hoops Class from Rivals
STALLINGS TALKS 2008 CLASS
"Stallings is bringing in what Rivals.com recruiting analysts say will be a possible top-15 class, which easily would be his best in the rankings during his tenure at Vanderbilt. It consists of four four-star prospects, each in the Rivals150: point guard Brad Tinsley (No. 93 overall, No. 16 at his position), power forward Steve Tchiengang (87th, 27th), and small forwards Jeff Taylor (52nd, 10th) and Lance Goulbourne (72nd, 12th).
Kevin Stallings has put together a talented 2008 recruiting class for Vanderbilt. How did he do it?
"It certainly has to do with the successes we've experienced as a program the last four to five years (including three NCAA Tournament appearances and two Sweet 16s)," Stallings said. "It also helps when guys can look and say, 'Well, they've had the last two players of the year in the league (Derrick Byars and Shan Foster), and you go there and guys get better and you have a chance to play and show what you can do and have success.' "
Stallings diplomatically said it was too soon to say which player would have the greatest immediate impact, but Taylor is the highest-ranked player, and with the departure of Foster, Taylor certainly looks as if he'll have every chance to start from Day One.
"We've really helped ourselves," Stallings said. "We have four quality guys who are going to come in and impact our program hopefully sooner rather than later. I think so much of who emerges depends on need.
"The person who impacts the quickest is not always the one who impacts the most over time. Sometimes it is, but I think all four of them are capable of coming in and having an impact next year. I'm not saying all four will, but I think all four are capable."
Not to be forgotten in the class is redshirt freshman Festus Ezeli, a 6-11 center with a 7-5 wingspan. Ezeli has been clashing in practice for the past year with A.J. Ogilvy, and Stallings says Ezeli, a Nigerian, has made great strides and should provide a major presence defensively."

State of Basketball in the State of Tennessee
Last year, the state of Tennessee for the first time certainly in recent memory and probably ever had 3 teams slated for top 4 seeds by the NCAA Basketball Committee. This fact combined with little known Nashville's Belmont University nearly knocking off Duke in the first round of the NCAA West Region made 2007 certainly a strong year for the state's basketball programs.
The future is showing no signs of slowing for the state's basketball programs if a little known recruiting service known as Rivals is any indication. After taking a look at Rivals.com recent top 100 rankings of prep basketball recruits, the state of Tennessee is in the lead with 11 committed prospects with Vanderbilt and Memphis leading the way with 4 prospects inked and Tennessee lagging behind with three. Just as bonus information, Florida is second with 9, and North Carolina, home to historic programs such as NC State, Duke and UNC is third with 7.
From this data above, one can only reasonably conclude that the best basketball located in I-40 is not Tabacco Road which connects these three aforementioned ACC powerhouses, but rather it's the portion of I-40 that stretches across Tennessee connecting Memphis to Vanderbilt to Tennessee.

Tinsley on Cover of ESPN
Under the title "Vandy Dandy," ESPN gives Tinsley front page treatment.
"ESPN 100 combo guard Brad Tinsley verbally committed to Vanderbilt over the weekend, according to the Nashville City Paper. Tinsley, who was released from his scholarship to Pepperdine, narrowed his decision to Vandy and Wake Forest. "After he visited Vanderbilt, he decided Wake was the only other school that had a shot at him," his father, Carl Tinsley, told the paper. "It was a matter of coaching staffs, players and the depth chart. Those schools are pretty similar. There's not a lot of difference between them."
ESPN's Recruiting Coordinator Joel Francisco knows why the talented Tinsley had over 20 offers after gaining his release. "He has improved since last year and is now a sure-fire division one point guard, although he's also an excellent scorer," Francisco said. "He played off the ball most of the time last summer, but now he appears to be very comfortable running the point. His point guard skills - most notably his decision making - have developed and he's always been an outstanding shooter. He is very good in the open court and has the ability to dish out some dazzling assists."
"He's a good athlete, but not great, as he struggled against quicker opponents during the spring and summer," Francisco continued. "In addition, he had a tendency to wear down late in games. In the half court set Tinsley is a great shooter with a smooth release, but he needs room to get it off and he has problems separating himself from defenders with the dribble because he's not overly quick. But he has a high basketball IQ and is one of the better competitors on the west coast. Overall, he should be a solid combo-guard in a motion offense, due to his prolific shooting touch and savvy."
Tinsley joins a recruiting class that includes fellow ESPN 100 signees Jeff Taylor (Hobbs, N.M./Hobbs) and Lance Goulbourne (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) as well as Steve Tchiengang (Montverde, Fla./Montverde)."

Goff Taken in 5th Round
It's no wonder the New York Giants won the Super Bowl last year. They have superior management--the latest stroke of front office genius came early Sunday afternoon when New York selected Jon Goff with its fifth round pick.
The Dores have produced a high number of NFL draft picks over the last few years. It's a testament to the coaching staff's ability to develop less heralded recruits from high school. Chris Williams is the perfect example. He came to Vanderbilt weighing 240 pounds; he left Vanderbilt as a quick footed 315 pound NFL Franchise tackle.
For anyone keeping score at home, the Dores sent 3 more players to the draft than Alabama. Worth noting.

Dores Land Taylor
Jeff Taylor, one of the top unsigned recruits in the 2008 class, committed to Vanderbilt yesterday and intends to sign a LOI this week. This is great news for the Dores and adds to a solid recruiting class. Taylor is 6-7/205 and averaged more than 30 ppg in his senior season. Basketball Signing Season Underway
With Lance Goulbourne and Steve Tchiengang already committed, CKS and co. look to sign fellow Top 100 recruits, Jeff Taylor and Brad Tinsley.
Tinsley has cut his list to Oregon, Wake, and VU; most gurus believe the decision will come down to OU and VU. Taylor is down to Vandy and Texas.
If VU scores both prospects, it may be the greatest recruiting class since 1968 (Steve Turner, Chris Schweer, Glen Butler, and Tom Arnholt).
Mo Patton says the signing period has started slowly, but nobody expected Taylor or Tinsley to sign right away.

More on Snedeker
A recap of Sned's weekend at golf.com and a video that reveals the emotion of The Masters.
Gatewood a Sleeper
Interesting article about defensive ends who might move to outside linebacker in the NFL. Gatewood would likely play OLB professionally:
"Gatewood is a player who has a fantastic combination of size and speed. He is a natural pass rusher who has the burst to close and a variety of moves to get past the offensive linemen. Also, his quickness, explosiveness and acceleration make Gatewood deadly off the edge. By becoming a 3-4 outside linebacker, Gatewood has the ability to become a threatening pass rusher off the edge. He may never turn out to be a full time starting linebacker, but he should find a home as a situational pass rusher."

Snedeker Falls Short in Augusta
After a beautiful eagle on the second hole, Snedeker looked prime for a Sunday Showdown. Unfortunately, he stumbled through the front nine and was out of contention by the turn.
Snedeker had a tough day after 3 rounds of fantastic golf. It was hard not to compare his tournament to a Vandy football game with Sunday being the fourth quarter. Snedeker handled the setback with ultimate class. A great guy with a great future.

The 'Dores used 5 pitchers and held Austin Peay to one run while posting 8 runs on 12 hits. The win marks the second in a row and hopefully has the team back on track before the weekend series against Mississippi State.

Will Rough Start Catalyze a Trip to Omaha?
ESPN's Chris Low considers whether Vandy's surprising stumble out of the SEC gates will benefit the 'Dores in the long run. Coach Corbin makes an interesting point: when you win, you don't learn. Hopefully, the early conference season adversity will propel the 'Dores to a second half surge.

'Dores Swept in Oxford
The 'Dores were swept for the first time since 2006 by the Rebels this weekend in Oxford. A few DD writers attended the game yesterday - the Rebels offense proved too much. One bright spot for the 'Dores was the back-to-back home runs hit by Pedro and Flash. Sunday and weekend recap here.

Fantastic Article
The Sports Business Journal has an extensive article on the dissolution of the Athletic Department and the subsequent ascension by all of Vanderbilt's teams. A great read.
Articles on Captain Smith
The Tennessean and City Paper published stories this morning on George Smith's career coming full circle. For those of you who forgot, Smith was a gunshot victim three years ago. Today, he's a captain of the Football Squad.

On Keegan
When the DD heard the surprising news about the KB defection, our initial worry was that his coach-hat-wearing father pioneered the decision. Yesterday's report in the Tennessean and today's continued stories served as confirmation.
The DD would be shocked if Mr. Bell has not orchestrated this entire hoopla. We don't mean to throw him under the bus, but it just doesn't pass the smell test. Keegan seemed to love playing here, and now all the quotes about his transfer come from his father, the mouthpiece. We wish Keegan the best in the future and hope he can fulfill the NBA prophecy that his father has set out.
The DD will miss Keegan's entertaining style of play.
Two quick ancillaries:
1) Keegan and AJ had a special rapport. They were roommates, AJ spent his Christmas holidays with the Bell family, and they had a clear connection on the court. The DD does not fear another defection--AJO is in prime position for continued stardom and sitting out a year would be foolish--but we hope that Keegan's absence does not have an adverse effect on the Frozzie.
2) From an optimistic standpoint, perhaps the Dores are set to land Tinsley and/or Taylor. The DD hopes the writing was on the wall that Keegan would play behind $ Beale for two more years and develop in the shadow of one of these future stars.

Scout Names Foster 1st Team All American
Last week while we were on hiatus, Rivals released its All-American squad. Like Scout, Rivals named The Truth as a First Team All American.
The Truth, Second Team All American (AP)
The media continues to recognize Shan Foster's fantastic senior season. This time, it's the Associated Press, which placed The Truth on its All American Second-Team Squad.
Foster was the lone SEC representative on one of the first two teams.

Another offseason, another defection. This time, it's Keegan Bell. This is a disappointing surprise to the DD.

A few things
The DD hasn't felt like posting much this week; we've been reflecting on a fantastic regular season that came to a sad halt in Tampa. The DD will return to form next week.
Two quick notes:
1. The Truth will participate in the 3 point shootout at the Final Four on April 3, at 7 PM, ET. ESPN will televise it. If Shan's hot, he'll take it home.
2. An in depth look at Earl Bennett from the Mile High Report in Denver. It's nice to read analysis from someone other then Mel Kiper.
3. JeJuan Brown will take an official visit at Arkansas after the Final Four. We missed him this year, and it'd be a shame to have to play against him.

'Dores to Sweet 16
The DD writers are still suffering from a first-weekend tourney hangover with the 'Dores performance on Friday. Nevertheless, we tip our hats to the seniors, especially Shan and Red. We're going to miss them greatly next year. This DD writer scoured youtube.com for Lance Goulbourne highlights this weekend and has very high expectations for next year. This guys loves to dunk the ball. We'll have plenty of hoops '08-09 talk this summer.

Red, Truth Leave Legacy at Vanderbilt
Jarred Amato talks about the legacy that Alex Gordon and Shan Foster leave behind at Vanderbilt. The two friends headline the senior class who set the career record for wins by a class this year. Red made his mark on this DD writer when he exploded for 30 points as a freshman against UT, and Shan has been nothing short of incredible this season.

"Experts" go with Siena
If the Dores need any bulletin board material for its first game, the wizards at cnnsi.com have provided it. All 5 of its "experts": Seth Davis, Stuey Mandel, Kelli Anderson, Grant Wahl, and Luke Winn have the Saints of Siena sliding past the Dores. You can click here if you'd like to waste your time.
After a survey of the talking heads, the story sounds the same as it did in 2004 and 2007: Vandy is weak on the road, defensively inefficient, reliant on the three ball, and inferior on the boards. We've heard it before, we'll hear it again.
Also, some of the good folks at VandyMania are tallying which experts are with us and with against. We are the resounding 'dogs.

Dores Secure a 4 Seed
The Selection Committee gives the Dores a protected seed, and the road to San Antonio starts against Sienna on Friday Night.
It's the same song, different dance as Seth Davis picks Sienna in the first round. So does Gary Parrish and Jason Horowitz. As The Truth pointed out in tonight's press conference (excellent, by the way), the team has been underdogs throughout his career. Sienna may be a chic pick this year like the George Washingtons and Western Michigans of the past.
This year's squad has the elements of a Final Four contender: 4 seniors, great guard play, and a bevy of capable shooters. Defense will be the X factor. A rematch with Georgetown would sure be nice.
The DD will provide links to all pertinent stories throughout this week.

Dores, Home for the Weekend
For the second straight year, Arkansas downs Vandy on Friday. And for the second straight year, the 'Dores are likely headed to the Dance as a 6 seed.
The DD hoped the Dores would make it to Sunday but a Friday loss isn't all together bad. It's two more days of rest and practice, and two more days for Stallings to light fire under ass. Plus, we've done okay the last two times we've had the 6th seed.

Luke Winn's All-American Selections
I turned in these two All-America teams for the SI vote last week:
First team:
G: D.J. Augustin, Texas
G: Chris Douglas-Roberts, Memphis
F: Tyler Hansbrough, UNC
F: Mike Beasley, K-State
F: Kevin Love, UCLA
Second team:
G: A.J. Price, UConn
G: Stephen Curry, Davidson
G: Shan Foster, Vanderbilt
F: D.J. White, Indiana
F: Luke Harangody, Notre Dame
That was before Foster's virtuoso performance against Mississippi State on Wednesday. He's a lock to win SEC Player of the Year, but does he now deserve a first-team spot? If we re-voted today, I'd at least consider swapping him in for Douglas-Roberts at the second guard slot.

Around The Rim
Jason McCallum gives Shan the performance of the night in ATR:
The performance of the night easily goes to Vanderbilt senior Shan Foster. All he did was score a career-high 42 points in the Commodores' 86-85 overtime win over Mississippi State on Vandy's Senior Night. He hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining, finishing 9-for-15 from beyond the arc. The amazing thing is that he missed his first six attempts and then made his last nine. The win gives this senior class its 84th win -- the most by a class in Vanderbilt history.
Vanderbilt is now 6-0 this season in games decided by one possession. Last season, they were 2-2 in such games -- including a one-point loss to Georgetown in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. "

Memorial Magic
Memorial Magic spans Clyde, Perry, the F-Troop, the Bomb Squad, and the recent generations yet to be iconized (McCaffrey, Maddux, Langhi, Freije, Byars, The Truth). Today, it's never been more alive. The DD leaves it to jfgogold for the eloquence:
Strange things happen there. Things like a young man from Kenner, LA who loves his God and who loves his family making 9 threes in a row to steal victory from the jaws of defeat and a one-sided referee's whistle. Or like a young man from Pensacola, FL having his best night of the season against the short-lived #1 orange, scoring more than any other game in his career other than the 30 he hung on that same archrival in his freshman season. Or like another young man from Fort Thomas, KY who's been through a lot in his college career single-handedly outscoring the home-state school that overlooked him for an entire half of basketball.
Special things happen there. Buzzer-beating half-court shots, Perdunks, Bomb Squad 3s, long-range gunners before there was a 3-point line like Hagan, Wyenandt, Rhodes, Cox, Fosnes, Compton, and so on. Goheen beating UT single-handedly in the last minute his freshman year, or hitting long-range missiles at the half and at the final buzzer to beat Louisville. Or him stepping behind the line to beat Georgia when he had time for a layup because he "didn't think Coach Newton could take overtime". Special things like beating #1 North Carolina one season and #2 Indiana another. Or like a young man named Willie "Hutch" Jones capping off a special but otherwise unremarkable career by dropping 37 points on a great Alabama team on Senior Night.
Special players call it home. Young men with great character and great intelligence make the decision to wear the black and gold, always with an eye toward leaving the program in better shape than they found it. So many have left an indelible mark in our memories and some even on our hearts. Long-suffering fans have seen the program reach great heights only to see it torn down again and have to be rebuilt. Rarely has our Commodore team seen such a combination of skill, athleticism, character, and courage as this season's team possesses. We have once again attained a great height and the view looks very promising into the future.
How do you explain what goes on in this very special place? We have all seen things, both good and bad, occur there that just make us shake our heads in amazement. Tonight was one of the most extraordinary things I have ever seen happen there. As I stood with my family after the game, I couldn't help but shed tears as I looked around at those old cinderblock corners and out onto that floor and remembered so many of these special moments as we basked in this most recent addition to Vanderbilt legend. The roar of the crowd bounces off those corners and walls and just reverberates to an amazing level. Anything is possible there. There's only one way to describe what takes place in this old building. It's called Memorial Magic. There is nothing like it anywhere, and I count it as a privilege to have been a part of it for so many years, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds in this very special place called Memorial Gym

In Shan, We Trust
The Truth Mesmerizes Memorial in Grand Finale
For all the seniors, it was a great senior night, but for Shan it was a performance that Memorial and Vandy fans haven't seen since 1969, as he UNLOADS for 42 points. The Truth hit 9 straight 3 pointers and nails the final one with 3 seconds left in OT. A truly unbelievable individual performance...DD still cannot believe this game between two top 25 teams was not televised, but no one can call a game like Joe Fisher!
The Truth Knows No Bounds
The Truth drills his last nine 3-pointer of the game, including the winer in OT en route to a career-high 42-points. JR said it was arguably one of the best single-game performances in Vandy history. Much more to come. ESPN Recap.

State is a tough matchup for us. They play excellent defense, rebound as well as any team in the conference, but they also shoot a high percentage (since they get a lot of easy buckets around the rim). However they're last in the league in FT%, and they don't shoot the 3-ball particularly well either.
I'm especially worried about how Nelter will match up with Rhodes, who's big and athletic. Beal also faces a stiff test in Jamont Gordon, who'll likely be playing in front of a lot of family and friends, since he grew up in Glencliff just outside of Nashville. I wonder if they'll put Gordon on Shan, as there other guards are shrimps. We'll need a big night from Red and AJ, and hopefully Metcalf has a big final game as well.
If the game is up-tempo, I like our chances. If they can force a grind-it-out defensive slugfest, we're in trouble. We have more depth, so if we can wear them down w/ the B team and keep the game close, we'll have an advantage down the stretch.
It sucks that Vandy's early spring break always ensures that our students miss Senior Night. CKS should file a petition to move it back so the students could hit up the SECT and/or Big Dance over the break.
I've seen that we're a 4.5 favorite, which I think is a bit generous. CKS is 1-7 career on Senior Night, which does not bode well. However, this year apparently they've moved the festivities to being after the game, so maybe that will help. State is 5-2 on the road in the SEC this year; we are 17-0 at home. Should be a good one.

Bracketology
Lunardi moves the Dores up to a #4 seed in his latest Bracketology. This DD writer believes the Dores don't care what seed they get - they've proven they can make a run come March.

'Dores Climb Back Into the Power 16
The Dores move back into the #15 spot in ESPN's Power 16.
"Beating Tennessee after losing by 20 in the teams' first meeting in Knoxville shows how far the Dores have come from the turnover issues that were killing them earlier in SEC play. One lingering concern: All four Vandy losses came in a five-game stretch in January in tough road environments. They won't be tested again at that level away from Memorial Gym until at least the SEC tournament."

Great Pub This Morning
Vandy Grad Buster Olney filled in on ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike Radio show this morning. It is simulcast on ESPN2, where you could see Olney popping his Vanderbilt sweatshirt (looks to have been bought in 1981) and touting the 'Dores at every moment possible.
The Dores are also on the cover of every major sports website: espn.com, cnnsi.com, ncaasports.com, cbs.sportsline.com, secsports.com, etc.
Good to be Gold.

More on the Music City Showdown
Chris Low talks about the Dores' resiliency, plagued by foul trouble for much of the game, and their ability to make a deep run in March. An impressive win considering AJ played 12 minutes and the Vols were in the bonus with 16:03 left in the second half.
Video comments from Pearl and CKS.
The Tennessean this morning.
From Around The Rim:
"Shan Foster of Vanderbilt finished the game with 32 points, one point shy of his career high. That total is the second-most ever scored by a player whose team beat the top-ranked team in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll. On Feb. 5, 1998, North Carolina's Antawn Jamison scored 35 points as the Tar Heels beat top-ranked Duke 97-73."

Magic Pervades, Dores Prevail
Memorial Magic was alive as the Commodores continued its streak against #1 ranked opponents. Tennessee becomes the 4th team in as many tries to enter Memorial ranked #1 only to leave with a loss.
The Vols also become the Commodores 7th #1 ranked victim in school history--elite status, as only six programs can claim more.
It was the grittiest performance of the year for the Dores. The ball bounced UT's way time and again while the referees sent A.J. Ogilvy to the bench early and often. Vandy needed 58 minutes from its bench--the same bench that scored zero points just 3 nights ago in a win against Georgia.
The entire team played inspired ball, but if one player is to be singled out, it's Shan Foster. The Truth cemented his status as the SEC Player of the Year with 32 points including 6 threeballs, none of which went uncontested.
On second thought, the DD would be remiss if it didn't mention the point guard play of Jermaine Beal. 34 minutes against a constant press, 17 points, and 0 turnovers. Fantastic control and demand of the game.
The 'Dores get 12 foul plagued minutes from its second best player but still find a way to beat the nation's top ranked team. It's Good to be Gold.

Streaks
Not only have the Dores won 3o of 31 at Memorial, but Vandy has knocked off the last 3 #1 ranked opponents that have come into Memorial:
2007 Florida W 83-70
1993 Kentucky W 101-86
1987 North Carolina W 78-76
A victory would also be Vandy's 7th victory against a #1 Ranked team. Only 6 teams have more.

Music City Showdown
Maurice Patton previews tonight's match up. One reader commented on the story:
"Look for Vandy to upset UT. UT may keep its focus but they are a prime candidate for an upset and Vandy is feeling it in Memorial this season. Whatever happens, this is almost de facto SEC title game and is a MUST WIN for UT, not Vandy."
This DD writer agrees -- upset in Nashvegas tonight.

Dores Top Dawgs
Red and The Truth paced the Dores with a combined 52 points to lead the Dores to a 6th straight victory (a streak which started in Athens), and it's 30th win in 31 games at Memorial. Strange stat of the night: 0 points off the bench. Stats, quotes, highlights, and more, here.
At the time of this post, it looks like UT could come to Nashville as the top ranked team in the country.

Angry Power 16 readers
Some comments on Vandy not receiving a single vote in the Power 16 this week...
"I belive Vandy should be in the top 12. I am a vol fan but Vandy has played tough all year and with 4 losses should ranked above ESPN favorites in the BIG ten. If the Vols do pull an upset of the tigers they get Vandy at their place and they are difficult to beat."
"Seriously? How is it that Vanderbilt's had just 4 losses - all of them away, with one in double overtime, and none of them to slouch teams - and did not receive any Power 16 votes?"
"I am sorry but Vandy could beat both Wisconsin and Purdue. What is Purdue's signature win? Beating highly overrated Wisconsin and Mich. State? Hahaha. The Big Ten is #### besides Indiana, and even they are just OK. Vandy has an RPI of 10 does that not take SOS into account? Last time I checked it did. Sure they have not beat a top 25 team, but they have only lost 4 games (All on the road to good teams: UT no one wins at UT this year, UK was a fluke game that UK should be lucky they won and Vandy easily avenged that, Florida is not a bad team, and Ole Miss was rolling when Vandy played them). Also, they have beaten Wake who just beat Duke, South Alabama who is a very good team, and Umass, a team that will be on the bubble for a tourney birth. They don't have a bad loss and their RPI is 10. They should be at the bottom of this...."
"I may be a little bias but Vandy not even included in the 20 teams possible to vote for in the power 16? Its not enough that they don't get the pub they deserve from you guys at the station. Heck, they have been ranked all year and even when they were ranked 12 there for a week, you didn't hear anything about them. They are playing four freshmen on a pretty consistent basis, and take away some minor mishaps, turnovers and they would be 23-3 or 24-2 right now. They are playing ball right now and are going to be fun to watch down the stretch. As always, they are fun to watch at Memorial. Tennessee is going to have a tough time there on Tues. night."
